Dakota won the tournament but Frankenmuth Eagles walked away feeling good about themselves after winning Game 3 against Mt. Pleasant 8-0. Emily Coulter pitched a two hit shutout gem and the Eagle offense had 10 hits to invoke the mercy of 8 runs after 5 innings.
Emily’s pitching line 5 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 6 SO, 0 BB
The Eagles wasted no time as Kaylee Kujat led off with a single. With that hit, Kaylee broke the record for hits in a season held by her and Amariah Wright with 64. The leadoff single was her 65th hit of the year. She did this in 36 games where last year she tied the record in 40 games. Congratulations to Kaylee!! Tara Keller sacrificed Kujat to second. After a walk to Emily Coulter, Claire Breinager singled in a run as did Brooklin Karwat.
The second inning had Savannah Baker lead off with a walk. Kaylee Kujat doubled. Baker came home on a wild pitch and Kujat scored on a ground out by Emily Coulter. The third inning was started with a double by Kylie Wilson. Brooklin Karwat hit a long fly ball to right center that fell in between the two outfielders but Wilson could only get to third as she was tagging up in anticipation that the ball would be caught. She came home on a sacrifice fly by Anna Smith and Savannah Baker got an RBI single. The last run came home on an RBI single by Mercy Baldwin scoring Kylie Wilson who doubled.
Kaylee Kujat (2 R, Double, SB), Kylie Wilson (2 doubles), and Brooklin Karwat (Double) each had two hits. Hannah Drake, Claire Breinager, Mercy Baldwin and Savannah Baker each had one hit.
It was fun to see the bats getting going again. It also was our senior appreciation game and we celebrated our lone senior Savannah Baker with a short presentation between games 2 and 3. Savannah will be attending Loyola College next year. We wish you all the best Savannah!!!!.
The Eagles now prepare for the “second” season taking on Carrollton in a pre-district game this coming Tuesday at 4:00. The Eagles ended the regular season with a record of 24-12.
