The Frankenmuth Eagles dropped their regular season final game to the Freeland Falcons by a 15 – 8 score. On the opening drive of the game, the Eagles were forced to punt and the kick was blocked deep in Eagle territory and 4 plays late Freeland scored on a 1 yard run to take a 7 – 0 early lead. On the ensuing possession, the Eagles answered back with a 12 play, 80 yard drive with Conner Campbell scoring from 2-yards and Campbell also ran in the 2 point conversion and the Eagles lead 8 – 7. The Eagle defense forced a Freeland three and out and the Eagles were marching again only to turn the ball over on a fumble. Late in the 2nd quarter, Freeland was driving deep in Eagle territory but Tyler Sommerville intercepted a Falcon pass to end the drive. The Eagles took the narrow 8 – 7 into halftime. Midway through the 3rd quarter, the Falcons scored on a 1-yard run and the successful 2 point conversion gave the Falcons a 15 – 8 lead. Early in the 4th quarter, Freeland again drove deep into Eagle territory but Drew Martin recovered a Falcon fumble. The Eagles attempted to mount a couple of drives, but a lost fumble doomed their comeback attempt. Frankenmuth totaled 266 yards to Freeland’s 114 yards . Campbell was the leading rusher for the Eagles with 140 yards on 23 attempts. Nate Stone was the leading tackler with 8. The Eagles ended the regular season with a 7 – 2 record. Sunday night the MHSAA selection show will announce Frankenmuth’s opponent in the opening round of the playoffs.
