Frankenmuth defeats the Hornets of Flint Kearsley in dramatic fashion 4-3 giving Coach Brad Walraven his 1,200 win in his 40 year coaching career. The Eagles scored 2 runs in the 6th then scored a run in the 7th with two outs to win the one run game.
The Eagles took the early lead when Brooklin Karwat walked and came home on a double by Emily Coulter. Flint Kearsley broke through in the top of the 3rd inning scoring 3 times to take a 3-1 lead. The Eagles had a tough break in the 4th inning. Aubrie Jacob hit a one out double. Tara Keller singled Jacob to third putting runners on first and third. The Eagles tried a double steal and looked like it worked as they scored the run but the batter struck out and apparently Keller was called out at second on the steal (despite the defender not tagging her). This ended the inning and broke any momentum the Eagles had. In the bottom of the 6th, trailing 3-1, Claire Breinager led off with a double. Her sister, Faith then hit a home run, her 5th of the year to tie the game. Flint Kearsley put two runners on in the top of the 7th after two were out but a ground ball got them out of the inning. The Eagles got a two out single by Brooklin Karwat. Then with the count 2-2 on Emily Coulter, Karwat stole second. With the count full, Coulter his a hard ground ball up the middle for a run scoring single giving the Eagles a walk off win.
“Just as we did Monday in the districts, the girls played hard right up to the last out They competed hard and had another come from behind win.”
Emily Coulter and Claire Breinager each had a double and now both hold the season record of 17 doubles.
