Frankenmuth, the visiting team trailed 5-3 going into the top of the 7th but rallied for 3 runs to take a 6-5 lead only to have Swan Valley tie it in the bottom half of the inning. But in the 8th, Frankenmuth scored a run and got Swan Valley out 1-2-3 to win the semi final district game.
It was a sloppy game as each team made 4 errors. Frankenmuth scored first. A lead off single to start the game by Kaylee Kujat, a bunt single by Brooklin Karwat and a walk to Emily Coulter loaded the bases but Frankenmuth only could come up with one run. An infield fly that was dropped by Swan Valley produced the first run. Faith Breinager hit a line drive snagged by Swan Valley and doubled the Eagle runner getting them out of the inning. Swan Valley came back and tied the game. The Eagles were retired 1-2-3 in the second while Swan Valley scored a run to take a 2-1 lead. Two errors by Swan Valley brought home a run for the Eagles to tie the score. But with 2 outs, Swan Valley scored 3 times to take a 5-2 lead. The score stayed that way until the 6th inning. A lead off double by Claire Breinager giving her 16 for the season and tying the school record. She came home on a double by Aubrie Jacob to cut the score to 5-3. Meanwhile, the Lady Eagles settled down and retired Swan Valley 1-2-3 in the 4th and 5th innings. Got out of a first and second nobody out jam in the 6th to keep the score at 5-3. In the top of the 7th inning trailing 5-3, Frankenmuth put on their rally caps and started their comeback. Kaylee Kujat led off the inning with a single. Brooklin Karwat drove her home with a hard hit ball to right center for a triple and an RBI cutting the deficit to 5-4. Emily Coulter hit a ball to the fence which at first was caught but the fence bothered the outfielder and dropped in for a double and a tie game. This was Emily’s 16th double tying the season record. With the momentum definately on the Eagle’s side Claire Breingager hit a hard single up the middle to give the Eagles to lead at 6-5. Swan Valley tied the score in the bottom of the 7th but in the 8th inning the Eagles scored a run to win the game. Anna Smith dropped bunt and forced the first baseman to hurry the throw and was thrown away. Kaylee Kujat sacrificed her to second. With 2 outs, Emily Coulter hit a fly to center but the wind held it up at the base of the fence but the ball was dropped scoring Anna Smith. Swan Valley was retired in order giving the Eagles a win over Swan Valley. Might not have been the prettiest of wins but in a single elimination tournament, a win is a win.
Emily Coulter picked up her 16th win as her record is now at 16-5. 8 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 4 SO, 2 BB, 3 ER.
