In a tale of two games, Frankenmuth defeated Freeland 11-9 in the first game of the doubleheader. Emily Coulter started for the Eagles and fought threw a tough two innings. Freeland scored 7 runs in the second to take the lead 7-0. But the Eagles did not back down, scoring 5 in the top of the third. Faith Breinager led off with a single, one of her 4 hits in the game. Anna Smith sacrificed Breinager to second and when Freeland booted the bunt it put runners on first and second. A walk to Kaylee Kujat loaded the bases and with one out, Emily Coulter singled in two runs. With two outs, Tara Keller hit a clutch single driving in two more runs making the score 7-5. Emily settled down and threw 3 scoreless innings while the Eagles pecked away, scoring one in the 4th on a sacrifice fly by Kujat. With Freeland up 7-6, in the top of the 6th, the Eagles would mount a rally to take the lead. Faith Breinager hit a one out double, her second of the game. Anna Smith followed up with another double tying the score. Freeland committed 2 more errors in the inning as the Eagles scored 2 runs because of the miscues taking a 9-7 lead. Freeland would cut the lead to 9-8 heading into the 7th inning. Tara Keller led off with a single her second hit of the game. Faith Hippensteel reached base on a sacrifice bunt. Faith Breinager singled in a run. Anna Smith sacrificed bunt and when the catcher, pitcher and first basemen all went out to the ball, Faith Hippensteel scored from second on a pure hustle play giving the Eagles a 11-8 lead. The Eagles would come up with a big defensive play in the bottom of the 7th. With one out and a runner on first, a pitch was in the dirt and the runner broke for second, but from her knees, Kylie Wilson threw out the runner at second making it two outs. It was a big out since the next batter hit a home run making the score 11-9. Emily Coulter struck out the final batter to end the game.

I was proud of our girls as they did not give up. It was a tough lineup that Emily faced and though she gave up a few runs, she made quality pitches throughout the game when we needed them and our defense play really well. Also proud in the fact that we beat their ace and had 11 hits. We got a lot of contributions up and down the lineup helping the Eagles get their third win.
