It is very rare that all of goals were unassisted, but that was the case Wednesday against Heritage HS. Six minutes into the match, Colin Hale collected a ping ponging ball in front of the Heritage goalie and neatly placed it into the back of the net. Muth 1, Heritage 0. The game saw both teams making hurtful runs at each other’s goal, but could not score. With 14 minutes remaining in the game, Heritage scored the equalizer on a shot from distance that skidded on the wet grass to elude goalie Gabe Kiel. Gabe made 9 saves on the day, and made sure that Heritage would only score that once, and once was not enough. With 3 minutes remaining in the match, Derek Williams, much like Colin, collected a ping ponging ball in front of the Heritage goal to tap in a shot that was so slow, we could not be sure it would cross the line. I suspect Derek did that for dramatic effect, and it worked. When the signal from the ref came that it was a score, the team and fans erupted. Final Muth 2, Heritage 1.
