The game of the week in the areas saw the Frankenmuth Eagles defeat Swan Valley by a 23 – 20 score. The 1st quarter was scoreless but on the second play of the 2nd quarter Davin Reif connected with Seth Messing on a 10 yard pass play and Derek Humpert added the PAT and the Eagles had a 7 – 0 lead. The Vikings answered back with an 11 play drive capped by a Goldensoph to Champney 17 yard pass play and the score was knotted at 7 – 7. Frankenmuth was forced to punt on the ensuing drive and Swan Valley’s drive ended on a Chris Mills interception and returned it down to the Swan Valley 37 yard line. Eight plays later, Reif connected with Cory Thompson on a 6 yard pass and a 14 – 7 lead held at the half. Four plays into the 2nd half, a weather delay occurred postponing the contest and resumed at noon on Saturday. The Eagles capped off the initial second half drive on a Ryan Brenner 27 yard field goal, giving the Eagles a 17 – 7 lead Swan Valley again answered back scoring at the 3:04 mark of the 3rd quarter on another Goldensoph to Champney TD pass of 7 yards. The PAT attempt failed and the Eagles clung to a 17 – 13 lead. In the beginning of the 4th quarter, the two teams exchanged punts. At the 9:25 mark of the final quarter, the Eagles marched 76 yards on 13 plays, consuming 6:59 of possession capped by a Reif 1 yard sneak. The failed PAT put the score at 23 – 13. The Vikings continued to battle, scoring with 55 seconds remaining on Goldensoph 5 yard TD pass and the PAT narrowed the Eagle lead to 23 – 20. The Vikings attempted a onside kick but Derek Humpert recovered the kick if not for inadvertent whistle would have returned for a TD. With Swan Valley having two timeouts available, the Eagles needed every second to end the game on a Reif scramble to use up the remaining time on the clock. Reif led the Eagles rushers with 81 yards and was 6 of 6 passing for 86 yards. Konner Roche added 66 yards rushing. Seth Messing grabbed 4 passes for 41 yards in the receiving department. Ethan Jacobs and Riley Roy led the defense with 10 and 8 tackles respectively. The Eagles will host the 4 – 1 Garber Dukes next week for homecoming.
