On a cool overcast Homecoming evening, the Eagles football team defeated the Garber Dukes 30 – 18. The defense forced a punt on Garbers opening drive and on the ensuing possession, the Eagles drove 80 yards on 12 plays, consuming 6:17 with Seth Messing sprinting 30 yards for a TD and the blocked PAT gave the Eagles a early 6 – 0. Midway through the 2nd quarter, Frankenmuth drove deep in Garber territory but missed a 30 yard field goal attempt. On the ensuing Garber possession, Cory Thompson intercepted a Adam Shimel pass and six plays later, Davin Reif connected with Thompson on a 23-yard TD pass and the Ryan Brenner PAT put he Eagles up 13 – 0. Garber narrowed the lead to 13 – 6, scoring with 1:27 remaining in the 1st half on a Christe 16 yard run and the Eagles took a 13 – 6 lead into halftime. On the opening drive of the 2nd half, the Eagles fumbled the ball over to the Dukes and at the 8:09 mark of the 3rd quarter Shimel to Anthony 12 yard TD pass narrowed the lead to 13 – 12. The attempted 2 point conversion failed keeping the Eagles up by a mere point. The Eagles responded going 71 yards in 11 plays with Reif connecting with Messing on a 4th down pass for 12 yards and a 20 – 12 lead. After the defense forced a Garber punt, the Eagles ensuing possession was a 14-play, 64 yard drive, consuming 7:37 capped by Reif’s one yard sneak and a 27 – 12 lead. After a Konner Roche sack giving the Eagles possession, Ryan Brenner nailed a 33 yard field goal and a 30 – 12 Eagle lead. Garber scored on a 39 yard TD pass with 4 secconds remaining for the 30 – 18 final score. The Eagles offense ran 71 plays for 352 yards and 25 first downs. Roche was the work horse with 125 yards on 28 attempts. Reif was 7 of 12 passing for 107 yards with Messing grabbing 3 for 36 yards. The Eagles had a huge time of possession advantage with 31:25 to 16:35. Shiloh Kotch had seven tackles as the defense limited Garber 36 yards rushing and 202 total yards. The homecoming victory upped the Eagles record to 6 – 0, 5 – 0 in the Tri-Valley East. Frankenmuth travels next Friday to Alma.
