Game Recap

The Frankenmuth Eagles captured the District championship by defeating the Marine City Mariners 42 – 23. Marine City scored first on a Dawson Haney 6-yard run but on the ensuing kickoff Ryan Khan returned it 70 yards to knot the score at 7 – 7. At the 6:44 mark of the 2nd quarter, the Mariners kicked a 27-yard field goal to take a 10 – 7 lead. The Eagles answered right back when Zach Jacobs connected with Hunter Schluckebier on a 55 yard TD pass. Marine City came right back to score on a 14-yard pass and take a 17 – 13 lead. With one second remaining in the 1st half, Jacobs hit Ryan Khan on 2-yard TD pass, taking a 19 – 17 lead into halftime. The Mariners struck quickly to open the 2nd half scoring at the 11:04 mark on a 7-yard TD pass to regain the lead. After the Eagle defense stopped the Mariners on downs and four plays later Alec Yagiela rambled 29 yards and Khan’s 2-pt. conversion gave Frankenmuth a 27 – 23 lead. In the 4th quarter, the Eagles extended their lead when Jacobs threw his third TD pass of the game to Mario Whitley on a 31-yard play and Conner Campbell added the 2-pt. conversion for a 35 – 23 lead. On Marine City’s ensuing possession, back to back QB sacks by Ronald Mandeville and Jacobs gave the ball back to the Eagles and with 3:49 remaining, Schluckebier ran 35 yards to paydirt and a Heinzman PAT upped the lead to 42 -23 . A last drive by the Mariners was stopped when Drew Martin picked off a pass.  307 total yards was gained by the Frankenmuth offense compared to 306 yards by the Mariners.  Yagiela lead the Eagles rushers with 69 yards, followed by Khan with 66 yards. Jacobs was 6 of 11 passing for 138 yards. Shiloh Kotch was the Eagles leading tackler with 10.   The Eagles will host the Regional Championship on a time to be announced against the winner of Algonac and Ida.

Game Recap

The Eagles season came to a close last night dropping a 4-set match to the Caro Tigers. Having faced the Tigers twice this season winning one of two of those contests, the Eagles knew it would be a hard fought district play match and that proved to be true. The Tigers offensive attack was effective  and they were on their game defensively. In the end, it was the Eagle hitting errors which proved to be the difference maker in the loss. Kyra Jammer, who led the team in kills vs. Caro a few weeks back during TVC play, once again led the Eagles with 9 kills and 3 blocks. It was the final chapter in the high school volleyball career of the team’s four seniors, Grace Kaiser, McKenzie Harmon, Kyra Jammer, and Mikayla Philp. They are to be commended for their character and commitment to the program over the course of their high school career and the contributions they have each made on and off the court. Caro faces Birch Run in the district finals tonight.

Statistics Leaders:
Kyra Jammer 9 kills and 3 blocks
Mikayla Philp 5 kills and 11 digs
Jordyn Conrad 23 assists and 7 digs
Brooklyn Karwat 12 digs

The varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams will gather on Sunday, November 12 at 6:00 PM at the high school cafeteria for a combined volleyball awards banquet.
