Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · FHS Boys’ Soccer Win District Opener

FHS – 5 / USA – 0

Coming off the heels of the 3-1 decision over John Glenn, Muth entered the opening game of districts against USA encouraged that we found our scoring range. We did not know much about USA, but we approached the game as though we would need to work extremely hard to get good looks at the goal, and then we would need to execute.

It was apparent early on that penetrating runs along the touchlines would enable us to get behind the defense of USA. We had the option of attacking the goal dribbling or looking for crosses to on rushing FHS players. The first goal came in the 12th minute of play, when Kobe Hopkins beat the corner defender and launch a shot to beat the USA goalie. The 2nd goal came when Greg Weess, did as Kobe had done, beat the corner defender and then launch from a severe angle a shot that beat the USA goalie to the near post. First half score – Muth 2 / USA 0

USA dig in for the 2nd half; playing a swarming defense when Muth entered their defensive 3rd. It was not until the 24th minute of the second half before Muth scored agains.  Derek Williams scored the 3rd goal of the match when a corner kick did not clear the USA penalty area. Derek from 18 yards out sent a well-placed shot outside the reach of the USA goalie. Derek then followed up that score by placing the ball in the far corner that “Erich, with an ‘H’” put away for his 1st score on Varsity. There were still 10 minutes left to play. Derek, on a tear, finished the scoring for the contest with 8 minutes left on the clock by beating the goalie who was off his line with a shot over the goalie’s head. Final Score Muth 5 / USA 0

Next up is Birch Run on Wednesday at Caro, 4:30 PM start time.
