Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer · FHS Boys’ Varsity ends conference play with back to back ties

Frankenmuth Vs Garber 04-Oct-17; 0 – 0 Tie

In the pursuit of extending consecutive conference championships, FHS enter this match with a “must win” attitude. A win against Garber would keep our quest in our hands; trying for a 9th consecutive conference title, and 10 of the last 12.

As the game went back and forth, Frankenmuth lead in shots on frame 8 to 5, and corners 4 to 2, but the back of the next was elusive. The only score of the game was called off by the officials. The shot made by Derek Williams, the one that would have won the game, was disallowed, and after 80 minutes of play, the game resulted in a 0-0 tie.

This tie meant that North Branch, if they could win at Birch Run, would lock up the conference title. It would also close the door on Frankenmuth sharing the title. Birch Run provided FHS with a chance; they defeated North Branch. FHS was back in the hunt.

Frankenmuth Vs North Branch 09-Oct-17; 0 – 0 Tie

For the past 2 years and this year, the last conference game of the season between FHS and North Branch, would determine the conference champs for the TVC-East.  FHS won outright in 2015, shared the title with North Branch in 2016. In the 2017 version, FHS needed the win to capture the title. North Branch needed a tie or win, and the title was theirs outright.

For all the FHS effort, which was considerable as measured in minutes on the ball, shots on frame, and corners, the hustle by the North Branch defense and their goalie denied FHS the score. Our shots on frame were 11 to their 7, and for corners we had a 11 to 2 advantage. This is huge, and speaks to how much of the game was played in front of the North Branch goal.

Our players have heard me say time and again, the most important statistic is the number of goals scored. At the end of 80 minutes, the most important stat on was on the score board; 0 to 0. My congratulations to North Branch for their outright title. FHS will need to wait until the 2018 season to see if we can improve on 9 of 12 conference titles.

Our focus now changes to the Districts. We open on Monday, 16-Oct-17, at 4:30 PM. FHS will host USA.
