FHS Boys’ Varsity traveled to Groves High School to play in the annual tournament comprised of Groves High School, Flushing High School, Notre Dame Prep (NDP), and Frankenmuth High School. The site for this tournament rotates among the four schools. It is a tournament that challenges Frankenmuth Boys’ soccer.
I had written previously that the team that controls the ball usually controls the game. In our first two matches; Against Groves and Notre Dame Prep, FHS tallied 2 shots on frame vs 18. FHS had 3 corners to 9. We were on the wrong side of ball control in both of these matches. That said, the team defense kept the scores respectable; Muth 0 – Groves 0, and Muth 0 – NDP 2. The 3rd match against Flushing saw our stats even out with our opponent; Shots on frame: Muth 3, Flushing 2; Corners 3 each. Flushing may have had only 2 shots on frame, but making one was all they needed to get the result. Carson Bell had 15 saves on the day.
The caliber of the competition we play may not be the stuff of fluffy W’s, but it the best way I know of to get ready for league play, and ultimately State Tournament play. The boys are gaining invaluable experience. The character of team is best demonstrated when things are not going your well. This team has great integrity.
