Multiple Teams · EAGLES KICK OFF SEASON AT LAKE ORION

The Eagles kicked off off their 2017 season at the Lake Orion Varsity Tournament this past Saturday in Warren. They finished 3rd in Pool play with a 1-5 set record against Athens, Salem, and Clarkson High Schools. They then dropped their first round match in the Silver bracket to a very talented Stoney Creek High School team. Despite their tournament record, the Eagles played hard and fought with determination against four very talented class A schools. They finished the day 0-3-1.

Pool Play: Muth vs. Athens (14-25, 23-25); Muth vs. Salem (25-19, 13-25), Clarkson 11-25, 13-25).

Silver bracket round one vs. Stoney Creek (10-25, 18-25)

Returning varsity players for the 2017 season are seniors, McKenzie Harmon (MH), Mikayla Philp (MH), Kyra Jammer (OPP), Grace Kaiser (Libero) and Veronica Izzo (OPP). Junior Meghan Stange suffered an unfortunate season ending injury to her finger during tryouts which will sideline her this season. She was an outside hitter expected to start in that position. Sophomore Brooklin Karwat returns to the varsity team as an outside hitter this season.

New players to the varsity this season are juniors Josie Wagner (OH), Madeline Walter (OH), Elyse Schmitt (DS) and Emily Coulter (DS). Sophomore Jordyn Conrad rounds out the roster as starting setter for the Eagles.

“The Eagles varsity volleyball team may not be considered “experienced” because there are two sophomores and and a junior in the starting line-up, but the team shows great potential to challenge any team it faces. With the graduation of two all-state players and one all-region standout, as well as a new varsity coaching staff, this year’s varsity volleyball team will have a new dynamic. The team is a hard-working group of young ladies who train with passion and are motivated and determined.  They show great potential for success as they continue to practice and compete together. The team has developed terrific team chemistry that will lay the groundwork for great things to happen throughout the season.”  – Coach Conrad
