Game Recap

The Eagles met up with North Branch at Broome Park in Flint for the semifinal game of the Tom Cole Invitational. The game was tied 0-0 until the bottom of the third. A lead off walk by the Broncos spelled trouble for the Eagles. A pick off play on the runner got passed the first baseman and allowed the NB runner to advance all the way to third, where a sacrifice bunt brought him home.
In the top of the 5th the Eagles struck back. Jackson Mahnke started the inning off with a single to left. A sac bunt by Joby Ostrofsky moved Mahnke to second. Dan Szczepanski then hit a grounder to short that he beat out to first. Mahnke broke for third on the play and the throw from first sailed over the third baseman’s head allowing Mahnke to score.
NB answered in the top of the inning. Back to back to back walks with 1 out loaded the bases for the Broncos. Dan Szczepanski then tracked down a fly ball in left field and threw out the advancing runner at third, but the runner tagging from home scored to make it 2-1. The Broncos were able to tack on 3 more runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 5-1.

Dan Szczepanski led the Eagle offense going 2-3.

Danny Mills took the loss throwing 5 innings giving up 1 hit and 4 earned runs, walking 6 and striking out 2.
Stan Trombley threw 2/3 of an inning in relief giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run and 1 walk.
Kevin Heinzman threw 1/3 of an inning in relief walking 1 batter.
