Frankenmuth High School
Standish Sterling Central High School
The Eagles looked again to rebound from being swept the day before by traveling to Standish-Sterling High School for a TVC crossover match-up. The night started slowly as a scheduling mix up left the teams with no umpires. Eventually the game was started, but the double header turned into a single game due to time restraints.
The Eagles couldn’t avoid the big inning again in this game as Standish put up 6 runs in the bottom of the second as 3 errors, 2 walks and 2 hits spelled trouble for the Eagles.
The Eagles took an advantage of a walk by Jackson Mahnke and a error off the bat of Dan Szczepanski to score in the 3rd. After failed bunt attempt left runners on first and second with 1 out, Connor Campbell singled to score Szczepanski. A single to deep left center by Danny Mills kept the Eagle comeback going, but a series of strong throws caught Freier at home trying to score from second. A single by Garrett Rezmer brought Campbell home making it a 6-2 game before a fly out ended the rally.
Standish answered with a run in the bottom of the 3rd making it a 7-2 game. Another error for a lead off batter led to a run for Standish and a 9-2 lead.
Back to back singles by Zach Freier and Connor Campbell pushed a run across for the Eagles making it 9-3 with 1 out. Danny Mills then blistered a line drive that was snagged by the Standish shortstop, who doubled up Campbell at second to end the threat.
A single, 3 walks and a fly out pushed a couple more acrossed for Standish to make it a 12-3 game. A double and a single in the 6th scored the 13th run and made the mercy win complete for Standish.
Connor Campbell led the offense going 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.
Danny Mills also had a multi-hit night going 2-3 with a double.
Garrett Rezmer had the start and took the loss throwing 4 innings giving up 7 hits, 9 runs, 4 earned and 4 walks while striking out 3.
Austin Johnson threw an inning giving up 2 hits, 3 earned runs and walked 3 batters.
Stan Trombley threw 1/3 of an inning giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run.
