Frankenmuth High School
Garber High School
The Lady Eagles captured an outright TVC East championship, their 11th consecutive, with a 47-27 victory at Garber tonight. With the win, Frankenmuth finishes the regular season at 15-5, including a 13-1 record in conference play. Birch Run, which split with the Eagles during the season, finishes a game beyond in the standings.
After a first quarter that saw both teams finish tied at 11-apiece, the Eagles made some defensive adjustments and held the Dukes scoreless in the second, and headed into the locker room with a 24-11 halftime lead. The girls did a much better job in that quarter of rebounding on the defensive end and limiting Garber’s transition opportunities.
The Eagles kept clicking in the 3rd quarter, as the offense started to come alive. Senior Lindsey Mertz canned two three-pointers early in the half, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the game. Fellow senior Hannah Karwat also got into the act, finishing with a double-double of her own, with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
From there, the ‘Muth played an intelligent rest of the half, not allowing the Dukes to cut into the lead the Eagles had built in the middle two quarters and Frankenmuth closed out the win in their final regular season game. Frankenmuth is now off until next Wednesday when they will play the winner of Birch Run and Swan Valley in a district semifinal game at Birch Run. Game time is 7:30 PM.
