Birch Run High School
Frankenmuth High School
The Lady Eagles played in another big rivalry game tonight as they hosted the Birch Run Panthers. After defeating Millington for a second time last Thursday, the ‘Muth had another chance to knock a big opponent out of the conference championship race. Unfortunately for the Eagles, they were unable to get the job done and fell 56-49.
Down by eight at the half, the Eagles played a inspired third quarter, trimming the lead to three entering the final stanza. After tying the score midway through the fourth, Frankenmuth struggled to score in the final two minutes and were forced to foul in the final minute. The Panthers did a good job of making their free throws down the stretch, an area that the Eagles struggled with all night.
Birch Run was led by freshman Sarah Miller, who had a game-high 19 points, including 15 in the first half. Senior Savanah Gibson chipped in with 15 points.
Frankenmuth was led by sophomore point guard, Kaylee Kujat, who finished with 17 points, while senior Lindsey Mertz added 10 points and 12 rebounds.
With the loss, Frankenmuth still holds a one-game lead in the TVC East standings over Birch Run and Garber. The ‘Muth play their last regular season home game this Thursday against Caro. It will be parents and senior night as we honor those that have contributed so much to our program.
