With Volleyball Conference play complete, the TVC East, Central, and West divisions all met up in Alma for a cross-conference tournament to end regular season play.
The Finals posted two TVC East teams, Frankenmuth and North Branch. After a loss to North Branch earlier this month, Frankenmuth battled their way to the top of the tournament, knocking off the Class B #2 ranked Broncos in three sets: 25-22, 21-25, 15-11.
Frankenmuth started play against the other 2nd place teams in the TVC: Freeland (Central) and Hemlock (West). The Eagles ended pool play with 2-0 wins against both teams, giving them a bye before facing fellow TVC East opponent, Garber, in the quarterfinals. The Eagles took the Dukes in two; 25-17, 25-21.
Frankenmuth faced Swan Valley in the Semi-Finals, knocking off the Vikings, ranked Honorable Mention in class B, in 3 sets; 15-25, 25-23, 15-11.
“It was a fun accomplishment. North Branch has won the TVC tournament the past 11 years, so to have our name on it after all this time, we are very proud for this team and these girls” stated Coach Wierda.
The Eagles were led on offense by Senior Jackie Weess who tallied 49 kills, Junior Kenzie Harmon who added 24 kills, and Freshman Brooklin Karwat who ended the day with 20 kills.
Senior setter Lindsey Mertz put up 118 assists, added 16 kills of her own, and rounded out her day with 27 digs.
The Eagles defense was led by Senior Hannah Karwat, with 38 digs, Jackie Weess added 24 digs to her offensive performance, and Alexa Merkiel had a solid performance with 23 digs.
Junior Mikayla Philp led the Eagles in Blocks and Aces, with 11 and 8 respectively.
The Eagles begin their post-season play with a 7pm Match on Wednesday 11/2 against the winner of tonight’s first-round Match between Swan Valley and Birch Run.
