The Frankenmuth Varsity Eagle volleyball team traveled to Clinton Township’s Chippewa Valley on Saturday, October 1st to face 15 tough teams.

The Eagles started the morning a little slow but pulled out a victory over the Cousino Patriots. The Eagles captured the win in 2 sets, 25-19, 25-23. The Eagles continued their journey with a win over host school, Chippewa Valley Big Reds. The Eagles came back for this match fired up and ready to put their best game forward. They defeated Chippewa Valley 25-10, 25-12.

The Eagles immediately turned around for a back to back match with the Algonac Muskrats where the Eagles claimed a 2-0 victory 25-23, 25-13. After coming out of pool play seeded 2nd overall amongst the 15 teams, the Eagles met with the Marine City Mariners. The Mariners were defeated by the Eagles with scores of 25-23, 25-17.

In the semi finals of the tournament, the Eagles found themselves competing with Fraser Ramblers. The Eagles clenched the hard fought victory in 3 sets, winning 2-1. With a 27 point cap implemented, the Eagles lost the first set 26-27 before winning 25-19, 15-9.

The Championship game was set between the Frankenmuth Eagles and the Sterling Heights Stevenson Titans. The Eagles fell to the Titans 17-25, 19-25.

Tournament leaders for the Eagles include Jackie Weess with 65 kills, Lindsey Mertz with 128 assists and 12 aces, Kenzie Harmon with 10 blocks, and Hannah Karwat with 60 digs.

The girls played well together all day and came out of a tough tournament with their second second place trophy in two weeks. The Eagles will continue their battles as they travel to North Branch for a rivalry game with the Broncos at 7pm before having the weekend off to celebrate Frankenmuth High School’s Homecoming festivities.
