Frankenmuth Eagles traveled to Mt. Morris High School on October 17th for the twelve team Mt. Morris Invitational. Five of the twelve teams involved in the tournament are ranked class A or B teams, including Frankenmuth who is currently ranked #10 in class B.
Frankenmuth started the day against #2 Cadillac and had a difficult time getting started. The Eagles were able to string together some great plays and put up a fight, but ended up falling to Cadillac 16-25, 17-25. The Eagles immediately turned around and played North Farmington. The Eagles were able to play together and take the first set from North Farmington before falling short of taking the second set. The match finished 25-21, 17-25. The final match of pool play would be against Grosse Ile which would prove to be a victory for the Eagles in a 25-11, 25-15. This would have the Eagles end up second in their pool and seventh overall.
The first game of tournament play, the Eagles would face Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and prove to be a competitive match up through the first two sets. The Eagles fell to Notre Dame Prep 16-25, 25-17, 6-15. This would take them out of the tournament and close out their day.
Throughout the day, the team was led by captains Lindsey Mertz and Keri Frahm. Mertz collected 3 aces, 7 kills, 2 blocks, 82 assists and 24 digs. Frahm tallied up 1 ace, 14 kills, 8 blocks, and 6 digs. Jackie Weess also helped the team out today with 2 aces, 24 kills, 2 blocks, 3 assists and 34 digs. Hannah Karwat helped keep the backcourt alive with 5 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist and 26 digs. Madison Wiskur and Mikayla Philp boosted the Eagle offense with 16 and 14 kills respectively. Together the Eagles collected a total of 18 aces, 87 kills, 11 blocks, 87 assists, 123 digs.
The Eagles look forward to traveling to Millington for a Tri-Valley Conference match before heading to the Fenton Invitational on October 24th. Sunday, October 18th the Lady Eagles will give up their only day off to visit the Mustard Seed Shelter of Saginaw where they will visit with the women and children who are currently at the shelter. The Lady Eagles plan to paint pumpkins, play children’s games and enjoy donuts and cider with the women and children. On October 28th the women and children will attend the volleyball match and watch the Eagles take on the Birch Run Panthers the a dual charity match. Frankenmuth Eagles are raising money for the Mustard Seed Shelter of Saginaw while the Birch Run Panthers are raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project.
