Frankenmuth Varsity Volleyball traveled to Garber High School for the Duke’s “Dig Pink” charity game. The teams celebrated, honored and remembered family and friends who have fought cancer or are currently fighting it. It was a wonderful evening with many events and the Eagles were proud to be able to be invited to take part in the evening with Garber.
While all the festivities were going on, the Eagles and the Dukes were also focused on the 5th conference match of the year. For the Eagles, this match-up was to hold on to the lead in TVC-East division as the only undefeated team in conference play. The Eagles knew going into the night that Garber is a strong team and they would need to be ready to play a strong game to come out the victors. The Eagles were able to defeat the Garber Dukes 3-0 with set scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-16.
The Eagles put in some different lineups than what they had been playing with so far this season and the girls were working very well together and very supportive of each other regardless of the position on the floor or waiting for their chance from the sideline. That kind of support and teamwork is what the Eagles are holding on to and will combine with their skills to make a strong push as the season is winding down and the post-season is getting closer.
Leading for the Eagles during the match was Jackie Weess with 16 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, and 6 digs along with Lindsey Mertz with 33 assists, 2 kills, and 9 digs. Keri Frahm also had a strong night with 11 kills, 4 blocks, and 3 digs. Hannah Karwat played tough defense for the Eagles, flying around the court and found 11 digs to protect the back court and also added in 2 aces.
The Eagles face a competitive tournament this weekend at Mt. Morris with several ranked teams, Frankenmuth being one of them as the #10 team in the state for Class B schools according to MIVCA.net. Next week the Eagles will travel to Millington for conference play.
Frankenmuth volleyball program is busy preparing for the home charity match this year on October 28th against Birch Run. The schools are raising money for two charities this year – Frankenmuth is raising money & awareness for the Mustard Seed Shelter of Saginaw and Birch Run is raising money & awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project.
