Game Recap

Frankenmuth Varsity Volleyball traveled to the twelve team Goodrich Invitational on Saturday, September 19, 2015. Frankenmuth stood 2-2 on the day being victorious over Bentley and Brandon while falling to Linden and Notre Dame Prep. The girls played hard all day but had a difficult time getting into a groove. It was mind over matter, and while the skills and abilities were there, the team had a difficult time “clicking”. Even though there were two losses, the girls and coaches took positives away from the tournament. Each girl came back to practice on Monday with something to work on and a skill to really narrow in on this week. They know this was not the best they can play and they have more potential that on another day could have shown to be more competitive throughout the tournament.

Throughout the day there were several high points with great energy and momentum to help the Eagles find their victories and force 2014 State Runner Up Notre Dame to take a time out early in the first set. The Eagles eventually lost the match 19-25 and 11-25. Keeping spirits up, Frankenmuth would next face Bentley and win 25-9 and 25-6. This would give the girls a chance to regroup and get ready for the rest of the day. Brandon was the last match of pool play and the Eagles were again victorious winning in three sets 22-25, 25-11 and 15-11. Brandon was competitive and had great skills that the Frankenmuth Eagles were able to work around and find a way to take care of of the ball.

After pool play was finished, the Eagles were seeded fifth out of the twelve teams and moved on to the Gold Division for playoffs. First up for the Eagles was Linden who finished as the fourth seed. Linden was a strong team and the Eagles were off. Unable to regroup fast enough, Frankenmuth lost 25-11, 25-16.

While the Eagles didn’t come out of the tournament with a trophy, they did come out identifying areas of play to work on and enhance before the next competition. Eagles face Bridgeport on Wednesday, September 23rd for the second conference match up and will travel to Lapeer for a tri with Goodrich on Tuesday, September 29th.
