Multiple Teams · Wrestling Ends Season On A High Note

The Frankenmuth Wrestling Team ended their season qualifying three wrestlers for individual regionals: Kris Roche, Austin Robishaw and Anthony Schurr(who is one of the teams captains). Individually we improved immensely with Austin and Anthony and the other team captain Josh Szczepanski winning over 30 matches.  It was quite a change this year having more wrestlers ready and eager to compete in the post season for  state issued metals earned at Districts, Regionals and our goal next year States. It’s a long a brutal season and we are proud of the commitment and work ethic these young athletes showed from the early matches in December to their final matches at Districts and Regionals in late Feburary. Another great improvement is the number of Iron Man Awards we are handing out this season. The Iron Man Award is given to a wrestler who makes it to every scheduled practice and weigh ins (which the wrestler participated in over 50 matches =16 regular season weigh ins). The recipients of the Iron Man Award this year as well as last year is Josh Szczepanski,  and first time award winners Nick Rogers, Jake Rogers and Kris Roche.

As a team the Eagles didn’t have the success as did some of the individual wrestlers due to not filling all the weight classes.  We are excited to see what the future brings for some of the new wrestler next season Cameron Lambeth, Peter Conely, and Alex Beechler who are all freshmen and will definitely contribute to next year’s team. Leo Dominquez who is a first year wrestler showed great improvement and will be a great asset next year. Some of the wrestlers this year wrestled several weight classes unselfishly for the team while sacrificing their own records and achievements which in the long run will make them better wrestlers for next year.

We are growing stronger each year. Caleb Slavik the new Middle School coach is increasing numbers and winning matches at that level which will only help the High School program. Mike Hogan, Jeremy Smith and Jeff Graham have successfully started a youth program to help the wrestling community grow. Their hard work along with the other volunteer parents will surely pay off.
