Jeff Ligney (Frankenmuth Sports Broadcaster)

Frankenmuth Athletics is excited to announce a partnership with Jeff Ligney as the voice of Frankenmuth Athletics coming this FALL (2015)!

Jeff Ligney, a native of Bay City, Michigan, has over 20 years of high school and collegiate athletic experience in a variety of capacities.  He is enters his 16th year with the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after taking over as the  league’s Director of Media Relations on July 1, 2000, becoming the Conference’s first full-time employee.  Ligney was promoted to Associate Commissioner on July 1, 2013.

Before coming on board with the GLIAC, Ligney served as student assistant sports information director at Saginaw Valley State University in separate stints since September of 1996.  While at SVSU he served as webmaster for the athletic web site, while assisting in virtually every facet of the department’s operation.  He assisted in the production of media guides, wrote press releases and hosted a weekly half-time segment on Cardinal football radio broadcasts.

Ligney has extensive experience in high school athletics, both in coaching and working championship events for the MHSAA.  He spent five years coaching high school basketball at various levels, including one season as the head boys varsity coach at Bay City All Saints.

Assistant men’s basketball coach at SVSU for five seasons, Ligney assisted with recruitment and other administrative duties, as well as on-floor coaching and was co-director of the Cardinal basketball camps. SVSU advanced to three GLIAC tournament  appearances during his tenure.

A product of Bay City All Saints High School, he played varsity tennis all four years and was a regional runner-up in 1989.  He led the basketball team to back-to-back district titles his last two seasons.  Ligney went on to graduate from Northwood University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Ligney recently concluded terms on the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee and the NCAA Statistics & Records Advisory Board. In 2012 he was elected to serve as President of the Division II Conference Information Directors Association.
